Traveling Times

Traveling Times

Quite frequently I am on the road. Most of my excursions are relatively short, between one and two hours one way. I usually listen to music and try to pray during these times. It seems that one way of ‘redeeming the time’ is utilizing these trip opportunities for something spiritually beneficial. I am by nature slothful and I have slipped in my disciplines, hence this very blog has suffered. I get spurts of energy on these outings and I come back ready to take on the world. Yet, it is easy to dream big and live small. My resolve is to try more and better, even as Jonathan Edwards, the youth, attempted as recorded in his miscellanies. But relying on grace and godly motivation is not like self-help methods of improvement. In fact, my traveling times have fostered a lot of self-effort, or at least, self-elevation in planning, if not in execution. So what is my take away? Be still and recognize God as Lord. Submission is the only posture one can take. Let me dream of Him being exalted and less of me being successful. Only then will God’s praise truly be the warp and woof of my life.
