God’s Highest Priority

The popular adage, “God has a wonderful plan for your life,” ought to be forgotten and a new one adopted. “God has a wonderful plan for His life.” Now, that’s more like the reality we find in Scripture. Rather than being man-centered, the Bible is actually God-centered. This may seem strange to people. Even regular church-going folks might balk at such a message. But, its truth is secure and it is the goal of this universe to exist for the glory of God.

I hear the distant rumblings of the hoi polloi, “What of God’s love for the world?” Indeed, God has included in His eternal scheme a place for a select group of individuals to share in the glories of the world to come, and this is a reality that many are very attuned to as they have devoured the sacred writings. But the blessings now evident and the certain joys of an unshakeable kingdom for mere mortals are not the primary purposes of God. His honor is His highest priority. Those blessed to share in the wonderful and unimaginable ecstasies of kingdom come are by-products of the glory that will become evident at the second coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, for whom all things exist.

In a nutshell, God has revealed this to us, and if we have eyes to see it, it will settle matters once and for all. It comes in a conclusion to an extended section of the epistle to the Romans. In chapter eleven, Paul has completed a discussion of the “Gospel of God.” He has waxed eloquently about how the scriptures are fulfilled in the coming and ministry of Jesus Christ. The Next practical exhortative section begins in the following chapter, but before reaching those practical injunctions, Paul has a simple statement that reveals the purpose for everything. Yes, Every Thing! He says,

“For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.”

It really is that simple. Three prepositional phrases, that point to the primary purpose of Praise to the all-Potentate.
